The Phoenix Theatre is located on Charing Cross Road, in between the Leicester Square and Tottenham Court Road underground stations. The theatre was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, Bertie Crewe and Cecil Masey, the building is close to a host of shops and hotels, making it a key theatre in the West End. Opening in 1930, the Phoenix Theatre showed Noel Coward’s Private Lives. The Phoenix Theatre interior is very grand and is often considered to be one of London’s finest theatres. Designed by director Theodore Komisarjevsky in an Italianate style, there are golden wall engravings and plush, red carpets which make the theatre exceptionally striking.
